$9.6 Million in Energy-Related Funding for County Multifamily Housing

Funds to Address Energy Efficiency and Climate Resiliency

 

April 18, 2024 – The Los Angeles County Development Authority (LACDA) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded $9.6 million in grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), through the Green and Resilient Retrofit Program (GRRP) Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) awards. The GRRP provides funding to owners of HUD-assisted multifamily housing to reduce carbon emissions, improve utility efficiency, incorporate renewable energy, and make properties more resilient to climate hazards. The grant award will be used for improvements at the Lancaster Homes housing development located in Lancaster. 

The grant will allow the LACDA to fund the construction of energy efficient windows and doors, heat-resistant roofs, energy efficient heating and cooling, solar, lighting, and other energy-related improvements. The grant will also provide funding to include mobility and safety improvements for seniors whose average age at the property is 75, and disabled residents, including ADA-related improvements for accessibility throughout the site.

The LACDA is currently undergoing several renovations at its public housing sites. The Orchard Arms senior housing site located in Valencia, recently underwent a solar renovation which consisted of the installation of solar panels over the tenant parking lots, resulting in reduced energy bills for senior residents and the agency is currently in the process of completing a solar renovation project at the South Bay Gardens senior housing site in South Los Angeles County. Throughout the years, the LACDA has also partnered with Southern California Edison Company, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, and Southern California Gas Company to provide tenants with cost-savings energy renovations.
