County to Open Waiting Lists for Elderly and General Occupancy Public Housing Sites

Interested Parties May Begin Registering August 17, 2026, 8:00 a.m.

On August 17, 2026, at 8:00 a.m., the Los Angeles County Development Authority’s (LACDA) Public Housing Program will begin accepting registrations for its 16 Site‑Based Waiting Lists (SBWLs), 10 of which are elderly-designated properties.  Interested persons may apply to one (1) or more of the SBWLs through September 16, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. The waiting lists for small sites* will close once 1,000 applicants are received, or on September 16, 2026, at 5:00 p.m., whichever comes first.  The County’s Section 8 waiting list remains closed.

As units become available, registrants will be selected from each SBWL in the order of preference(s), then by date, and time of registration. If the registrants are offered a unit from any one (1) of the waiting lists that they have selected and they reject the unit, their names will be removed from all other selected SBWLs.

Interested persons should be advised of the following:

An elderly family is a household whose head, co-head, spouse, or sole member is a person who is at least 62 years of age. It may include two (2) or more persons who are at least 62 years of age living together, or one (1) or more persons who are at least 62 years of age living with one (1) or more live-in aides.

The LACDA prohibits smoking on the grounds, and within the housing units, at all Public Housing developments.

Program Overview:  The LACDA serves as the second largest Public Housing Agency (PHA) in Southern California and receives funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to administer grant-funded rental subsidy programs. The LACDA owns and operates 3,229 public and affordable units located on 68 properties serving more than 6,650 residents. Residents pay no more than 30% of their adjusted monthly gross income for rent.  Rental receipts and an operating subsidy from HUD supply the majority of the funds to provide affordable quality housing and safe environments for families with limited means.
