Serving Families and Seniors This Holiday Season
November 27, 2024 – During this season of gratitude and giving, the Los Angeles County Development Authority (LACDA) and local organizations came together to help support Los Angeles County public housing families. These partnerships provided an opportunity for almost 300 families to celebrate the holiday, through the provision of turkeys, food basket distributions, and in some instances, fully cooked Thanksgiving meals.
In partnership with the New World Academy and the Rolling Hills Covenant, residents at the Harbor Hills public housing development were gifted over 80 turkey distributions along with essential groceries to complete hearty Thanksgiving dinners. At Nueva Maravilla, turkey dinner boxes were presented and made possible through a partnership with the East Los Angeles Community College Criminal Justice Club. More than 100 Nueva Maravilla families received Thanksgiving dinner boxes.
Over 100 families at Carmelitos received a turkey to accompany their Thanksgiving meal through the donations made by Church of Destiny, a local church near the Carmelitos community. Food baskets were also distributed to families enrolled in onsite youth programs. All baskets were donated by the Long Beach Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and included a $100 Albertsons gift card for any additional necessities.
Over at South Bay Gardens, senior residents enjoyed a Thanksgiving meal held in partnership with Live Yo Life Organization. Seniors were served a warm and cozy feast while enjoying in the company of their neighbors and staff.
“We recognize the importance of supporting our public housing families year-round but especially during this time of year,” said Emilio Salas, LACDA Executive Director. “We are especially thankful to our partners as together, we are able to spread a little bit of joy within our communities and support our residents as they come together for the start of the holiday season.”
