Los Angeles County, December 23, 2024 – The Los Angeles County Development Authority (LACDA) and local community organizations have worked together to provide holiday festivities to Los Angeles County public housing families.
During this special time of year, the LACDA and local community partners organized joyful events that included toy distributions and refreshments to families at the Carmelitos, Nueva Maravilla, Harbor Hills, and South Scattered Sites public housing developments. Through a partnership with A.C. Green Youth Foundation, more than 600 toys were distributed to families across the various public housing developments. Families at Carmelitos were greeted with a special appearance by former professional basketball player, A.C. Green. Individuals excitedly waited their turn to take a magical picture with Santa Claus and Mr. Green.
Over 100 food baskets and clothing were also distributed while spreading holiday cheer and celebrating the spirit of togetherness. Through the generous support of other community partners such as the Youth Institute, Jobs Plus, Juvenile Justice and Crime Prevention Act Program, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and other donors, families across the sites felt the warmth of the holiday season and were able to enjoy the company of their community.
Brightening the holidays for senior residents at South Bay Gardens, residents gathered to enjoy a delicious holiday dinner and tasty desserts. The dinner party, made possible through the partnership with Libertana Home Health Care, also included a chance to win raffle prizes. Prior to the holiday party, residents participated in a holiday photoshoot and were gifted their professional portraits at the party.
From enjoying festive meals to receiving a special gift this holiday season, the LACDA is proud to be able to bring smiles and cherished memories to Los Angeles County public housing families.
“I am thankful for the dedication and compassion shown by staff as well as our partners to ensure families in our public housing communities are able to enjoy the holiday season,” said Emilio Salas, LACDA Executive Director. “Our collaborative efforts truly make a difference for the hundreds of families we serve, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to partner with such committed organizations that put the well-being of County residents first.”
